Well I have been back on my usual evening sessions, and been concentrating on the zander, and wow what a few months it has been!
After catching the 8ib’er, I tried another location on the Great Ouse, where I knew zander were resident, but not actually fished it for them.
I finished work, and headed straight down there. On arrival, I was met by a gorgeous, calm moonlit night, and a feeling I would catch. I started setting up and within minutes of the first rod going out, I had a lovely, positive take. I quickly put the second rod down and struck into the fish.
At first I thought it was a pike, but then it broke the surface. The first thing I saw was those eyes, then I saw that spiny fin, break the surface. It was a big fish. trying to keep calm, I thought with the fish and brought it into the net. It was the biggest zed I had ever seen!
As you can imagine I was over the moon with this, and it followed with a few more smaller ones, all caught on roach deadbaits, laced with predator plus (Hence the red hands!) After the couple of weeks, I returned to the same venue a couple of weeks later and bagged a few more including a 10iber.
I have visited one other venue and had more zeds, and been back to the Ouse and always caught. I have also been out piking, but not had much luck, but the Zeds keep on coming and coming!
I will be trying an new fenland location very soon for the zeds, so keep an eye on the catch reports. Tight Lines!
