Had some bait left over for from my session on the middle level, so thought I would have a evening session after work.
I have been in a new job for the last year, and work within five minutes of the Old West river, but never had a proper go at the summer species in this river, so thought it would be the perfect opportunity.
I had a walk round it on my lunch break, and found an area, that was overgrown, and looked like it had never been fished, but I was able to get rod out, in between the lily beds.
When I returned, to the swim I cleared earlier, it was alive with fish.
Fish topping everywhere, which were most likely rudd (some looked a nice size) and there was also some good sized bream and tench rolling about.
I mixed up some bait, and set up the feeder rod.
After throwing about four or five orange sized balls of bait out, I cast the rod out.
Within minutes, I was into the rudd, all of them were stunning looking fish.
I then had a cracking bite on the drop and struck into a sizeable fish, at first I thought it was a perch, but after a nice scrap I had a lovely rudd grace the net, of around the 1ib mark.
Very happy as the biggest one I have had for a while.
Despite the commotion trying to bring the rudd in, this did not deter the fish from feeding.
I had quite a few of these to keep me busy, and hooked into something big which snapped me up in the lily’s.
I am thinking it may of been a very large bream, as saw one roll in my swim, near my bait, literally a few minutes before.
Who knows!
Anyway as night fell, I had some cracking pull rounds and started catching bream. I only had two, but they were both immaculate, compared to some of the warriors I have caught from the drains and rivers.
Biggest of the two bream
I was gutted I had to leave, as the fish was still feeding when I was packing up, but already have a return trip sorted in the next few days.
Looking forward to it!
