Sunday July 24th – Twenty Foot Drain

Well I usually fish this drain during the winter for the pike, but really fancied a go after the summer bream and tench it holds, which are not caught that often here.

I went down there the night before to clear a swim out, and chucked some ground bait out from a previous session. Looked perfect straight away, as there was plenty of fish rolling. Was feeling positive about the day ahead.

Got up at the crack of dawn, and couldn’t resist a bit of photography on the way to the drain. Fenland at it’s best!

After taking in the scenery at this time of morning, I started to setup my gear, and started baiting up the swim.

I was using a standard ground bait feeder at first, but the results were very slow. I then changed to a cage feeder, and literally first cast, I had a cracking bream, followed by some perch, skimmers and then more and more ‘proper’ bream. The action was constant. In the end I had a nice bag full of bream, no tench on this occasion, but wasn’t that worried.

Overall it was a perfect days fishing, and I am hoping for another session here very soon.
