Well I had planned to visit another river on today, but I was offered a chance to go after catfish, which I could’nt refuse as I have never caught one before.
We arrived at around half four. The weather was perfect. We all setup, and I had a take on the carp gear. The buzzer was going mad and the tip bent around. I struck into the fish and there it was a massive fizz of bubbles from the bottom and could feel something shaking it’s head vigorously.
I fought with it for about five minutes then the rig just gave up. I got the line in, and could see the hook was gone. Thats when I knew it was a catfish. The hooklength had been worn away by it’s pads. Gutted was’nt the word, and a fight I will never forget. I changed to a proper cat fish rig and lost a few runs during the night. I left Saturday afternoon, and my mate hooked into his new pb. All 28ib of it. Gutted I missed that aswell! Will be back and will have another go, and try and get one on the bank this time!
